I am one of the people who always say that personal or self development is important. It guides us in life, and most people don’t actually get why. Why do people want to develop themselves? Some people are curious why there are people like me who constantly focuses on self improvement but what is really the aim of personal development.
The aim of personal development is to improve yourself for you to reach your goals in life. Your goals in life will greatly depend on your aspirations. These aspirations will require skills, habits, and knowledge for you to reach them and self-improvement will be the means to reach that point.
For some, they always wonder why they have a friend who dreams really big and is doing their best to get the best version of themselves. They might work long hours, forget social events or whatever it is just to reach these goals. So they always wonder the aim of personal development, we will dive more into that in this article.
What is the aim of personal development?
Personal development’s aim is to improve us or shape us to reach our goals and dreams. These goals and dreams vary from person to person, and may even vary throughout time within the same individual. But these goals are what drives people into their self-development journey.
When I hear someone who wants to improve their lives and they are fed up with what they have, I always ask them what exactly do they want to change.
This is because self improvement, or personal development is not just about knowing that you want to change. You need to know what exactly you want to change.
Self-improvement without any aims or targets is just useless. One of the things I’ve learned in life is that you should not follow the generic self improvement tips.
What’s better is to do self improvement that is related to your goals.
It was a hard realization but it is true. Before, I always hear people say that I should always read books, meditate, exercise, and sleep well.
While all of these are good for your body, this took a lot of my free time, leaving me with nothing else to give to my real aspirations.
My aspiration in life is to teach this self-improvement. Self-improvement does not teach you like a strict coach that will give you a regimen without regard to your real goals.
To do that, what I should’ve done is to focus my time into making this website and my YouTube channel. It took me years to finally notice that it doesn’t matter how many books you’ve read, or how many exercises you’ve done. What’s important is to know if what you are doing is related to your goals in life.
That is the aim of personal development.
The purpose of personal development is to improve yourself for you to reach your real goals and aspirations in life. It is a bridge that will connect you to the life of your dreams. For that reason, how you do self-development will be different from others.
If you want to be a singer, then learn how to sing, and learn to use an audio editing software.
You can learn this by practicing how to sing, reading books about singing, or listening to a course about audio editing.
With our technology, it is really simple to learn a lot of things.

While it is good to put some time into doing exercises, reading productivity books, listening to self-development podcasts, and watching productivity videos, prioritize your real goals in life.
You won’t improve while watching productive people. You improve by practicing the skills they are showing.
There is a time in my life where I focused too much on books. Granted that I know a lot because of that, I have nothing to show about my real aspirations in life.
I then ask myself, what am I doing with my life? What have I’ve been doing?
The answer is I’ve read a lot. I’ve read a lot that I forgot that I am not doing anything for my goals.
Don’t be like that and let’s reach for the best.
But there is another question that needs to be answered. Some people are familiar with hedonic adaptation. To put it simply, hedonic adaptation is where there seems no satisfaction in anything. When I first had my 1,000 visits per month in this blog, I was ecstatic. But right now, I would feel the worse when I only get that views.
That is because there might be no end to personal development, and we will discuss it the next section.
Why is there no end to self-improvement?
There is no end to self-improvement because we change. Our goals change thus, we need a new set of skills and habits to reach that new goal. That is because, in life, there will always be goals. At any point in our lives, we are aiming for different relationships, money, health, or career.
In life, there can be outliers that figured everything out on their own. These people know what they want and don’t want to change anything.
But these are rare.
For most of us, our goals and dreams changes a lot. That is why we always strive to be better. In my opinion, we are not asking to be better, we are asking to be different.
Different in the terms that you want to develop into someone that can reach another goal.
For example, I just plan to make this website and be happy with it. So I developed myself how to write, edit some things in the website. The basic things.
But as my aspirations grew into making a YouTube Channel, I need to learn new things such as talking to the camera, video and audio equipments, and video editing.
Who knows what I will chase next, but that is the problem of the future me.
We just have to know that self-improvement is not a sprint. It is a marathon. We just have to take it with a goal in mind, and our goals change in time. It is not because we are never happy, we just have to find joy in the process.
The aim of self improvement is to reach your goals and to feel joy while in the journey.

So, here are the things I love.

Okay, let me first explain my Channel.
I believe that I really can’t explain everything too well on my blog. That’s why I created a YouTube Channel so I can easily explain a lot of things. Plus, I believe that Video Sharing is the future.
The next thing is books. Books are, for me, one of the cheapest ways to get invaluable information. We can learn personal development, finance, career, relationships, and many more from books.
Here, I will be listing my favorite books in different categories.
- For Beginners – 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey – Personal development has a lot of concepts and ideas to learn. Thus it can be really hard for beginners to know where to start. Thus, I recommend this book since all the basic concepts of personal development are here(except finance, check what I recommended for that)
- Productivity – The One Thing by Gary Keller – This book teaches us the power of focusing on one thing which is the ultimate source of productivity. The concepts taught are what I am using to constantly publish YouTube videos while maintaining this website.
- Busy? – Make Time by Jack Knapp – This book teaches us how to make time for the things we love. The concept is really simple but I think that makes it a book worth reading.
- Health – Lifespan by Dr.Sinclair – This Book teaches about the latest scientific research on lifespan. In his book, he has shared numerous things he is doing to slow down his aging process. This can be as easy as eating less which he recommends.
- Finance – The Richest Man in Babylon by George Clason – Perhaps one of the first books I’ve read about Finance, this book for me is the best if we are talking about learning basic finance such as basic saving and investing. The concepts are very simple but effective.
Take this advice as a grain of salt.
I don’t recommend buying Audiobooks one by one. I mean, audiobooks can be quickly finished by listening while working out or doing some mindless tasks.
So here is to save you some money. Just go for a monthly subscription to Audible. I believe that you will save a lot of money with that plus, they usually give freebies to anyone starting.
My Audiobook Recommendation will always be the same as my book recommendations, but I personally like The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins. I like how she is so casual while reading her book.
