Some people experience this by seeing better when they remove their myopia glasses if they have one. Whatever the case, you need to know what type of glass does people with farsightedness wear.

Plus lenses are what people use for farsightedness. This is different from what people with nearsighted wear which are negative lenses. Plus lenses are convex in shape and they are convex because they shape light so that they adjust the focal point.

This article will talk about why you should think of wearing glasses, what glass to use and a glimpse of some treatments available for farsightedness. While glasses are the most common, there are other treatments available.

Glasses can be a cheap, fast, and easy to use solution for farsightedness. In fact, there are numerous types of glasses for different types of refractive errors.

For example, convex lenses, which are also known as positive lenses are what’s being used for farsighted people. They are called that way because they are shaped in a convex manner, which adjusts or refracts light to help you see better

Concave lenses on the other hand are also called negative lenses and they are used by people who are nearsighted. They are concave in shape because they help refract the light by lengthening the focal length and reducing the refraction of light to help people with myopia see better.

The result of this is that they make object that are far away seem nearer causing people who are nearsighted to see objects that are far away.

Can you use reading glasses for farsightedness?

Reading glasses are used for farsighted people. In fact, it is recommended to wear reading glasses especially when you are doing closeup work such as reading a book, using your phone or working on a computer. It’s not bad to wear it all the time when necessary.

People who have a very high hyperopia might need to always wear positive lenses since it will be very hard for them to see near object. There is nothing wrong with wearing reading glasses all the time as long as you do not get any discomforts such as headaches, eyestrain and nausea.

One of the most common reason for discomforts when wearing positive or reading glasses is that they might have a wrong prescription and in that case, it is best to get an eye check to get a better assessment.

Symptoms you can experience if you are farsighted are:

  • Eye strain
  • Cross Eyes
  • Frequent Squinting
  • Headaches
  • Near Objects Seem Blurry

Can I use both Positive and Negative Lens?

You can use both positive and negative lenses once the need arise. There are also bifocal lenses in which most have both positive and negative lenses in them which is perfect if you need both. You may choose to use them separately or just get a bifocal lens.

Since positive lenses and negative lenses have a different purpose, you may need to use them depending on the situation.

If you are nearsighted and you need to look far, you can wear a negative lens and once you can’t read texts when reading then it is time to use a reading glass or positive lens.

But using both of them on top of each other is a bad idea because they will just cancel out the correction. Thus, there are bifocal lens in which one part of it is negative and the other is positive.

It will take time to get used to a bifocal lens but it is worth using especially if you plan to use one glass instead of wearing many at a time.

Are cheap reading or positive lenses worth buying?

Buying cheap reading glasses or over the counter reading glasses is not bad for your eyes and won’t cause any harm to your eyesight. The only difference between the cheap and expensive ones is actually the quality of the materials used. However, when it comes to the power and effect, it will be the same whether you chose a cheap or an expensive one.

Plus, it is easy to test out if your the positive lens is of a good quality even if it is cheap. Here is how it is done.

The quality of the reading glass can be easily checked by doing this:

  1. Hold your glasses at arms length – Make sure that you are looking at it in a straight line. This makes sure that you will see the line we’ll be looking at clearly.
  2. Rotate the lens – Start rotating your lens, you will see that a straight line of light will be present.
  3. Continuously Rotate the Lens – Continue rotating the lens and check if the line will be distorted or twisted.
  4. Test for Distortion of the Line – If you find a cheap lens with no distortion, it will be a good choice.

Bonus Tip: Remember that it is not the brand of the lens that count. You should always check the lens of every positive lens you buy. This will make sure that you buy the lens for its quality not for anything else.

Once you find a cheap reading glasses without any distortion, it is a good buy for your money.

However, there are reasons why you might opt for an expensive one. Some of which are their material quality, after sales service, quality control and design.

How do glasses work for farsightedness?

Glasses for farsightedness work because of their shape which is convex. Convex shaped lenses bends lights inward so light can reach your retina. Without these, people who are farsighted will focus light behind your retina. Thus, texts that are far away become blurry.

Where the light will reach is called the focal point. The goal of using a convex lens is to bend light inwards in order for the focal point to reach the retina. People who are farsighted tend to have a focal point behind the retina which is the reason for their blurry vision.

These type of glasses are also called positive lens because they focus light while concave lenses(minus lenses) are negative because they disperse or spread light.

I believe that tools are essential, especially in improving our lifestyle. Because I am a minimalist, I only buy things that add value to my life.

In this part, I will give you the tools I use for improving my eyesight.

Myopia Calculator

First, let’s start with something free. The Myopia Calculator is something I’ve personally made for my viewers.

Go to the Myopia Calculator I’ve coded, which will give you the details you need to start print pushing and active focusing.

I also have video instructions in that blog post, making it easier to use the tool.

Active Focusing Full Course!

So you want to do active focusing but don’t know how? I got you covered with a completely free course!

You can visit the course here: Improve Eyesight Fast: Full tutorial with Proof.

My Story

Alright, who am I giving tips on how to reduce your eye grade? What’s my story?

You can find my whole story here: How I reduced my Myopia

YouTube

Another free tool where you can learn more about eyesight is on YouTube.

While I do not make eyesight videos anymore, many YouTubers are out there that teach how to reduce your eyesight.

However, I am not one of them.

Of course, if you want to follow me, you can find my Channel by clicking the button below.

Tape Measure

Have a suitable measuring device. I don’t recommend cloth or simple tape measures since you must always stretch it hard when measuring.

Get a simple heavy-duty tape measure since you need to pull it out. You can also see that I’m using this measuring device in my videos.

Blue Light Glasses

Okay, one of the things you will learn from me is that preventing eye strain means getting enough sleep. Guess what? Blue light affects our sleep a lot.

That’s why I recommend wearing Blue Light Glasses at night about 2 hours before bedtime. That way, you will be sleepy enough and have a good night of sleep.

I use a yellow-colored one since it blocks the majority of blue light.

Reading Glasses/ Positive Lens

A quick warning. Do not use a positive lens if your eye grade is more than -2.00. You do not need one if your eye grade is still high.

But always get a good quality pair of these glasses since low-quality pair of positive lenses might not be very accurate.

Furthermore, some of these cheap pairs are not optical grade, which means their surface is not smooth. Non-optical grade glasses confuse the eyes.

If you are in the last stages of print pushing (-2.00 below), don’t waste your efforts by having a low-quality positive lens.

While there is a simple test for checking positive lens quality, it would be better to ensure that you have a high-quality lens.

So I recommend this positive lens which is lightweight, scratch-resistant, and accurate.

Negative Lens/ Myopia Glasses

This is one of the problems of most of my viewers; however, I’m sorry, but as of this time, I can’t give you recommendations on where to buy a pair online.

I am just lucky to befriend an optometrist who helped me get the grade I want. Let’s see in the future if I find anyone that would offer to help us get one online.

Of course, I will check their quality myself before recommending anything.
